Western Sydney’s newest Junior Rugby League Club, Claymore, looks set to field a number of teams in the Western Suburbs district competition in time for the coming season.
The re-establishment of the club in the local competition comes after the Claymore Community Regeneration Centre, operated by the Department of Housing, joined forces with the NSWRL Integral Energy Western Sydney Academy in the hope of Claymore once again being home to a JRLFC after the old Claymore club exited the competition.
An interim club committee was formed in the second half of 2009, and has since been given permission by the Western Suburbs District JRL to enter the competition.
The move has come on the back of a number of successful Little League programs that have been run in the area, an initiative undertaken by the NSWRL Integral Energy Western Sydney Academy, aimed at attracting primary school aged children to the game.
Programs have also been held at a number of other locations in western Sydney over the past two years including Rouse Hill, Chipping Norton, Glenmore Park, Prairiewood, Riverstone, Glenhaven and West Hoxton.
A club training session was held at Claymore on Thursday 25th Feb with between 50 and 60 kids attending and a number of parents have stepped forward to help coach the teams.
Club sessions will continue over the next month in order to establish the most suitable age groups to enter teams in, in what is sure to be a fantastic first season back in the competition.
