Parramatta District Junior Rugby League is home to 22 junior clubs which collectively field more than 5,600 players in up to 400 teams each weekend, making it one of the biggest junior leagues in NSW.
Parramatta DJRL age groups range from Under-6s through to ‘A’ Grade, with open-aged graded teams usually starting after the Under-17s.
In addition to its 22 clubs, Parramatta DRJL also features 9 Catholic Convent Clubs which caters for players in the younger age groups from Under-6s to Under-11s. Playing on Sunday morning, the Catholic Convent competition has around 700 competing players.
The Junior League itself is unique, as it is bounded by five other Districts in Western Suburbs, Canterbury-Bankstown, Balmain, North Sydney and Penrith. Additionally, Parramatta DRJL’s region spreads over five municipal councils; Fairfield, Holroyd, Parramatta, Hills Shire and Blacktown.
Parramatta DJRL has made some innovative achievements over the past decade including the introduction of Saturday afternoon and Friday and Saturday night football for senior grades in 2002.
The Parramatta District Junior Rugby League has also introduced and implemented stringent behavioural tribunals, streamlined its code of conduct and judiciary process, and introduced complete ban of alcohol at all games commencing season 2007.
The Parramatta DJRL has also formed a contemporary Board of Management, a good working relationship with all its member clubs and has encouraged stakeholders to be an integral part of the organisation, in order for all parties to propagate the advantages of Rugby League within the Parramatta District and elsewhere.
