STEVE WARWICK

BLACKTOWN PCYC JRLC

Congratualtions to Blacktown PCYC JRLC volunteer, Steve Warwick!

Steve has recruited many African and Sudanese children introducing them to the game and aiding greatly in their integration into our community through Rugby League.

A lot of the players are provided with second hand boots that Steve purchases himself when he can find them at Salvos Stores, The Red Shield and second hand stores.

Any Tuesday or Thursday Steve can be seen driving the greater Blacktown area ensuring these children get to training and home again safely

When he is not doing that he spends many hours with the running of the club organizing other volunteers making sure everyone is up to date with all the information
they need to know.

His efforts have seen us grow from 3 teams to 7 in 2 years.

You really need to spend a training day routine with him to appreciate
how much he does for our sport.

Congratulations Steve and keep up the great work!

MAY 2010 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

HOWARD TE WHATA

GUILDFORD LEAGUES JRLFC

Congratulations to Guildford Leagues J.R.L.C’s Volunteer, Howard Te Whata!

Howard as Coach co-ordinator liases with, and mentors all those in need at our Club, consisting of 15 teams. He is also the Assessor for Coaches, and mentors them where needed.

We are a multicultural club with a vast array of ethnic and indigenous players and staff. Howard also sits on the committee, which involves not only helping with ground managing, but attending away games as well throughout the weekend. He is an avid supporter of all the teams.

Howard is Coach of the Under 7;s, Under 13;s and C Grade. He has often found himself coaching multiple teams, due to lack of Coaches available, and has a soft spot for the crying kid who cant play unless someone puts their hand up!

Howard can be found 7 days a week at the field, with training 5 nights. When he does have a night off, you'll find him arranging bbq's for the teams at the Club, or disco;s at the main Club for parents and players. (this somehow turns out to be an expensive exercise for his wife!.....).

He is easily recognisable at any ground, with his signature Akubra leather hat, very loud voice, and a trail of happy kids behind him like the Pied Piper!

An inspiration in devotion to the Club, paitence and hardwork.

Congratulations Howard Te Whata for being our Volunteer of the Month.

JUNE 2010 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

ROB FENWICK

DOONSIDE JRLFC

Congratulations to Doonside J.R.L.C’s Volunteer, Rob Fenwick!

Rob does not have any children playing Rugby League. Rob has never had children playing Rugby League for Doonside, yet he continues to commit himself to another year of supporting the children in our community.

What makes Rob that bit more special than others, is the distance in which Rob travels each week to 'Lend a Hand' During 2009,  Rob's decided to move to Maitland to be closer to his family.

We assumed that we were losing a volunteer that we couldn't afford to lose. However, to our surpise, Rob missed Doonside and his extended family at Doonside Junior Rugby League Club.

Rob decided to travel to Sydney each weekend, when work commitments would permit, and return to Maitland on a Sunday night. We have been told that Rob boards a train at 3am on Saturday Mornings from Maitland to arrive here in Doonside just in time to co-ordinate and operate our BBQ.

It is for this reason that we believe, Rob Fenwick and his devotion to the children at Doonside Junior Rugby League Club would make him Western Sydney Academy's first choice Volunteer of the month.

Well congratulations Rob Fenwick for being our Volunteer of the Month.

Keep up the great work
